Frequently Asked Questions

Is acupuncture painful?

Acupuncture is generally not painful. The needles used are extremely fine, and most people feel only a slight sensation as they are inserted.

What happens in an appointment?

Your first session will be a consultation followed by an initial treatment. This appointment will last for 60 minutes. You will be asked some questions about what's brought you to acupuncture, and about your overall health and lifestyle. This all helps me make an accurate diagnosis.

Subsequent sessions will last 40 minutes and will consist of a brief discussion to see how you are progressing before the treatment.

During treatment needles are inserted in different parts of the body. You may need to undress but gowns will be provided and I will work with whatever you are comfortable with. The needles may be left in for a period of time, or removed straight away depending on what we are trying to achieve.

Is acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is very safe. Other than possibly feeling a bit tired after some treatments it's unlikely you will experience any negative side effects.

All needles are single use and sterile and are disposed of safely. As a member of The British Acupuncture Council, I uphold their vigorous standards of safe practice.

How many sessions are needed?

The number of acupuncture sessions varies depending on the individual and the condition being treated. Some people experience significant improvement after just a few sessions, while others may require more.

After your initial consultation we can discuss the approximate length and frequency of treatment.
